Participants in the 32nd Congress
of the Greek General Confederation of Labour
Athenes, 17 March 2004

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On behalf of its member organizations in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the General Confederation of Trade Unions, GCTU, extends its warm fraternal greetings to participants in the 32nd Congress of the Greek General Confederation of Labour, GSEE.

Its traditions, alongside its consistent and effective struggle to protect workers’ rights and interests have won the GSEE well-deserved respect and high prestige, both in Greece and the outside world, including the CIS countries.

This Congress of yours is held against the background of the forthcoming expansion of the European Union, a new political situation in Greece and the economic contradictions caused by the growing neo-liberal tendencies in a globalising world. We are confident your Congress will adopt the adequate decisions that will help the GSEE efficiently protect workers’ political and socio-economic rights, rally its ranks, enhance its stand in society, and contribute constructively towards unity of action by the international trade union movement.

May we assure you, dear Friends, of our invariable desire to further develop the traditional fraternal links between CIS trade unions and the GSEE.

We wish you a successful congress.

General Confederation of Trade Unions
